The Making of themakingofSarah
Sarah is a Chicago-based maker of many things. With a passion for replication and a desire to challenge herself - as well as the line between Art and Craft - she creates costumes and other artworks to bring a little more magic into the world.
Fascinated by the idea of creating or transforming things with her very own hands, Sarah has been exploring and learning about her art since she was a child. She began with making outfits for her Barbies and Build-a-Bears, went on to simple thrift flips and DIY projects for renaissance faires and Halloween costumes, and is now working towards more professional, theatrical costuming and cosplay commissions.
Sarah graduated with honors from Syracuse University in 2022 with a BFA in Arts Education and Studio Arts. This was an eye-opening experience and an incredible leap in her art-making journey. She was able to explore a wide variety of media and gain a better understanding of art/craft and their place in the world. Sarah is extremely passionate about challenging herself, expanding the breadth of her abilities while still honing her preferred medium, and continuing to learn from every experience. She also prioritizes using found materials and producing minimal waste. Sarah specializes in sewn and crocheted garments and decor, and is experienced in an assortment of other mediums from printmaking to sculptural installation.
